Thirty years ago today, a series of parachuting exhibitions held in and around Empuriabrava concluded with the final jump at the football field in Castelló d'Empúries. The world's best display teams, military and civilian, were involved in Parachuting '92, the Parachuting Exhibition in Support of the XXVth Games of the Olympiad Barcelona 1992.
Later this afternoon, two skydivers who participated in Parachuting '92 will rekindle the spirit of those jumps by landing at the Empuriabrava beach in front of a young audience gathered there. Bruno Brokken and Richie Hornig invited two great champions in the newest skydiving disciplines on the commemorative jump: Kyra Poh (SIN) and Raphaël Coudray (FRA). More about that later.
A single record of "Parachuting '92" was preserved in the form of a VHS tape, which Bruno managed to convert into a digital format just in time for today's commemoration. Look at it as a piece of history.
Featuring Brittany Ferries (GBR), Équipe de France VC (FRA), Golden Knights (USA), Red Devils (GBR) and Ales d'Empúries (ESP) - plus Monserrat Caballé and Freddie Mercury ;-)
