The Catalan Tourist Board has declared 2020 as the Year of Sports Tourism (YoST). The board's initiative aims to to promote this particular facet of an overall industry that represents 12% of Catalonia's GDP and 14% of its total employment.

Indoor Skydiving 2020 | First Global Summit, with an attendance of 200 attendants, belongs to the smaller gatherings under the YoST banner. Nevertheless, over the years, skydiving has clearly contributed to the region's well-earned reputation as a sports destination. More than 2.5 million skydives by people from all over the world were made since Skydive Empuriabrava opened its doors 35 years ago.

Castelló d'Empúries and Empuriabrava

The County Town of Castelló d'Empúries and the adjacent resort community Empuriabrava have separate histories, one dating back to 1079 and the other to 1967. The particular charm of both locations lies not only in the respective beauty but also in the combination as well as the many contrasts between old and new.

Empuriabrava has been certified by the autonomous government as a Sports Tourism Destination in 2003 for its trajectory as a skydiving hotspot of international renown.

The history of Skydive Empuriabrava goes back to 1985. When it opened in October of that year, it was the first full-time skydiving center in Spain. Since then, the center has grown to become one of the top three in the world. To date, over 2 million jumps have been made at Skydive Empuriabrava, in the Land of the Sky.

Over many years, the center championed the cause of parachuting and skydiving as an Olympic sport. In connection with the Games in 1992, it put spectacular exhibitions around Catalonia.
