The Superlative | CLYMB

CLYMB Abu Dhabi™ is announced as the world’s ultimate adventure hub. It's also a standout as a sports venue. The huge wind tunnel is bound to revolutionize indoor skydiving with the biggest flight chamber so far: 32 feet in diameter and 82 feet in height.

The grand opening of an indoor skydiving facility planned and built on a Pharaonic scale in Abu Dhabi, in the United Araba Emirates, is imminent. From 29 November 2019 the world’s largest – the widest and the highest – flight chamber could probably accommodate the first indoor 16-way sequential. That is just an educated guess at this point. But if 8-way sequential is possible in the “industry standard” 14 feet of diameter, imagine what can be done in CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi’s 32 feet! Mind-boggling! About as mind-boggling as it is to calculate the power consumption to run the 16 fans generating the airflow at maximum speeds.

According to a press release circulated by the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office, CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi will deliver a “world-class sporting experience” not only for (indoor) skydiving but for climbing as well. For that trendy sport, too, current standards are being redefined, with the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall at 140 feet.

According to the media office, the total costs for the project will amount to 367 million UAE dirhams – that is approximately 100 million US$ – and the purpose of the investment was to create “unique sporting challenges to active lifestyle enthusiasts from around the world.”

The initiator of the CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi project is Miral, an asset management company that brands itself as the emirate’s “creator of destinations” and assumes the role of promoter/developer for Yas Island. It holds a portfolio of attractions as well as leisure and sports facilities – including the necessary infrastructure to accommodate thousands of visitors. Ferrari World and the Yas Mall are connected to CLYMB through an air-conditioned passageway. Yas Waterworld and Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, as well as the Yas Marina and the Yas Marina Formula One Circuit, are also within easy reach.

“CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi is a thrilling new addition to the existing attractions on Yas Island, and we look forward to welcoming guests to this world-class sporting experience,” says HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, the Chairman of Miral.
“With CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi, we will further enhance Yas Island’s position as a globally recognized destination providing a diverse range of attractions for families, travelers, residents, and sports enthusiasts from across the world,” HE Al Mubarak adds.

Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi is the CEO of Miral and in charge of building up Yas Island innovatively and based on a multi-staged development plan.

“By 2022 we want to have 48 million visitors, and to achieve that you need to have a full strategy and plans,” Al Zaabi says. “People want an end-to-end experience from theme parks, restaurants and hotels.”

CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi counts among the active entertainment offers of Yas Island and should soon find acceptance as a first-class venue for top-level international competitions staged by the World Air Sports Federation and the International Federation of Sport Climbing.
