Sports Tourism Year 2020

Representatives of the Girona Provincial Council met with the organizers of Indoor Skydiving 2020 | First Global Summit (ISGS) to discuss extending support to the latter and including it into the program of events marking the 2020 Year of Sports Tourism in Catalonia.

To celebrate the Olympic Year with a view towards the planned candidature of Pyrenees - Barcelona for the 2030 Winter Games, 2020 was recently declared the Year of Sports Tourism in Catalonia.

The region is an ideal destination for sports activities of the varied kind, for competitions and trainings as well as for meetings and congresses. This was again corroborated with the World Skate 2019 World Roller Games taking place in Barcelona in July. They brought more than 4,000 athletes from 81 countries to the Catalan capital for competitions in 128 events.

When the organizers of ISGS met with the President of the Girona Provincial Council, Mr. Miquel Noguer, and the two Vice-Presidents of the Tourism Board, Mr. Jaume Dulast and Mr. Jordi Masquef, in Roses earlier today, it was to present the summit to the authorities and to discuss their patronage and support of the project.

The presentation of the ISGS by Juli Sagratal, Skydive Empuriabrava, and Roland Hilfiker, Support Air International, was exceptionally well received. And even though the summit would fall into the category of "boutique" when it comes to attendance figures, President Noguer thought it would be worthy of inclusion into the select number of events marking the Year of Sports Tourism. "Skydiving has clearly contributed to Catalonia's well-earned reputation as a sports destination. More than 2.5 million skydives by people from all over the world were made since Skydive Empuriabrava opened its doors 35 years ago," is how Noguer put.
