Castelló | Comital Town

Updated: Jan 5, 2020

Castelló d'Empúries – not Empuriabrava – is the host city to Indoor Skydiving 2020 | First Global Summit (ISGS). There is not much difference politically, Empuriabrava is merely a residential area within the municipal territory of Castelló. But there is a huge difference in terms of their history: some 1000 years . Another part of "Know Where You Go" ...

The Basilica Santa Maria was first mentioned in 1060.

Castelló's medieval splendor dates back to the 11th century but is kept alive and well in the 21st. The Basilica Santa Maria is just one example. There are many more. The counts’ residential palace, which serves as the town hall after adaptation that maintained nearly all of the structure's character, the wash house, the Jewish quarter, the prison, etc. All of it accessible to visitors. Even the 19th-century flour mill has recently been converted into an eco-museum. There is much to see and experience in the "Town of the Count," and hundreds of thousands have come over the past decades to do just that.

If there is a standout among the sites and sounds of Castelló d'Empúries, it must be the annual festival "Terra de Trobadors," a festive and multicultural space where the residents together with their guests revive with much enthusiasm the medieval times in the comital town of Castelló d'Empúries. More about that soon!
